The Lads In The Lakes
After an unsuccessful (but still enjoyable) attempt on Scafell Pike in 2004 we thought that leaving the weekend away until May would give us a chance of better weather and greater likelihood of actually reaching the top. Accommodation was, as usual, at the sumptuous Fayrer Garden House Hotel .
This time we tried going up from the Seathwaite side which is quite a long slog - apprx a 10 mile round trip and very hard on the legs. At one point we thought we were very near the top where we got to here
however at this point we found out how little Swifty knew about map reading and discovered we were only on Broad Crag. To reach Scafell's summit we had to drop around 500 ft and climb back up. It was ankle breaking stuff (as you can see from the boulders littering the moutaintop.
However we evetually made it to the actual summit and then had to wend out way down again. Suffice to say we were very tired and aching that night.
