The Lads In The Lakes

This year we continued the theme of suprise events but added in some walking as well.

On the Sunday we did a short walk up Wansfell Pike by Ambleside which at 482 meters was a nice stretch for the legs without seriously ruining out chances of waling again

Starting off in Bowness we walked from the hotel (The Fayrer Garden - our usual hotel we stay at when in the Lakes) to the lakeside jetties and took a boat trip up to Ambleside.

The Boat

Initially it was raining but as we reached Ambleside Wansfell Pike
the sun came out.  From the town we then took a
short walk to the top of Wansfell Pike after which we returned to the town for some well earned pints of beer and some lunch.

On Day 2 (Sunday) we had two surprise events - Ghyll Scrambling in the morning and rock climbing in the afternoon.

Ghyll scrambling involves donning a hard hat and wading up the river bed, scrambling over rocks and climbing up waterfalls. It was excellent (if wet!) fun.

After this we had to drive for about 30 minutes to the the South - almost right out of the Lakes to a quarry where we attempted to climb up the rockface (hard) and abseil back down again(scary). It was probably onyl around 50-60 ft high but was was very difficult for such lardy chaps to haul themselves up. Of course some of us were better than others.

Overall a wonderful weekend again - if a little tiring. But then that's the whole point!
